Following graduation from East High, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy to "See The World" and entered active duty on August 8, 1966. I volunteered for duty in Vietnam and served as a Gunner's Mate (E-5) aboard LST 1167, USS Westchester County http://www.lst1167.com/ from October 1966 until December 20, 1968. During most of that period, the Westchester was assigned to the Army/Navy Mobile Riverine Force stationed at Dong Tam and My Tho, South Vietnam. The Westchester was mined and heavily damaged on November 1, 1968 and I was fortunate to have escaped uninjured. Following that, I was transferred to San Diego, CA, where I served aboard the amphibious ships USS Bexar and USS Cleveland, guarding the California coast and "Honorably" completing my active Navy service on May 28 1970.

While in San Diego, I met and married Fern Cohrs of Winthrop, Washington. We were married for 20 years and we were blessed with four great kids. Renee (1970), Michael (1975), Sharon (1980) and Robert (1981). Fern and I divorced in June 1990.

After discharge from the Navy, I remained in San Diego and worked at the Naval Air Station at North Island until February 1973. I then moved to Seminole, Florida and attended collage at the University of South Florida in Tampa; earning a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice in June 1977.

After graduation, I was fortunate to win an appointment as a Special Agent with the NOAA, National Marine Fisheries Service, Law Enforcement Division http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/ole/ole_about.html ; where I conducted criminal and civil investigations regarding US Maritime, International Treaty and Conservation Law for 22 years, until my retirement in June 1998 when I left Federal Service with a total of 28 years service. During my career with NMFS, I have been stationed in St. Petersburg, FL ( '77 - '83), Seattle, WA ('83 -85), Brunswick, GA ('85-'90)and St. Petersburg, FL ('90-'98). It wasn't just a job, it was an adventure!

I currently reside in Clearwater, Florida with my wife Deanna (Williams) of Cabot, Arkansas. Deanna and I were married in November 1991. Deanna brought two sons to our family, David (1973) and John (1974). Deanna and I love being retired, travel, biking, walks along Tampa Bay, drawing and most of all spoiling the 9 and counting grandchildren that we have been blessed us with. Happy Trails to all my good old East High classmates.
